GuildHistory

The GSM Guild was founded in 1982 as the PAC Guild in order to serve as a support arm of the Performing Arts Center.  For many years, the PAC Guild donated thousands of volunteer hours to the PAC and to all the Garland arts groups by serving concessions and publishing the Arts in Action newsletter.  In 1983 the PAC Guild created the GARLAND SUMMER MUSICALS in order to provide a training ground for aspiring performers in a professional and educational environment; and to present quality summer musical entertainment for Garland and the Metroplex area.  The GSM has grown to become a major theatrical endeavor, which led to the establishment of the GSM Board of Directors in 1991.  In 1993, the PAC Guild became a committee under the Garland Summer Musicals Board.

Therefore, since the purpose of the Guild has evolved over the years into the fundraising and social support arm for the GSM, the name of the committee was changed in 1998 from the PAC Guild to the Garland Summer Musicals Guild.  The GSM Guild plays a vital role in supporting the Garland Summer Musicals.  The Guild hosts special opening night parties for Guild members along with cast parties and other social functions and fundraisers throughout the year.  The major fund raising event of the Guild has been an annual musical roast which began in 1986. These roasts have honored well known local dignitaries and politicians. All proceeds from these Roasts are given to support the production of the Garland Summer Musicals.
